Chronic Pain

Chronic pain disables more people than cancer and cardiovascular diseases combined. The cost to the nation in lost work days, medical and psychological intervention, lowered productivity, pain caused accidents, workers compensation pushes the cost of chronic pain ahead of the costs for heart disease and all kinds of cancers.

The estimated chronic pain cost exceeds 70 billion dollars a year. It is likely that this is an underestimation when one considers that this disorder has an impact on more than 70 million sufferers.

When pain lasts more than six months and does not respond to medical intervention or medical management it is labeled chronic pain. Pain is part of the bodies alarm system that lets the body know there is something wrong. Pain is labeled wither neuropathic or
nociceptive.

Neuropathic pain occurs as a result of injury to nerves or other tissues. This pain manifests itself as a sharp stabbing pain or a burning pain.

Nociceptive pain is pain caused by a disease such as arthritis or concerning a healed injury. Nociceptive pain feels dull ache or like an ongoing pressure.

Neurofeedback and Hemoencephalography (HEG) are our preferred treatment approaches to chronic pain.
